We've Got The Answers
to your questions.

(Well, not all of them. We can’t figure out #4 on that ECON final either.)

What is Alight?

Alight is a high-quality Birmingham community designed especially with University of Alabama at Birmingham students in mind. Alight features a variety of spacious, furnished apartments plus a full set of community features such as a clubhouse, pool, fitness center and more. All just minutes from campus.

Is Alight part of UAB?

Alight is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at Alight has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at Alight pays a flat rate that includes:

  • Furnishings
  • Wi-Fi internet
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • 24-hour emergency maintenance
  • Community features – pool, fitness center, clubhouse, etc.
What size are the apartments?

The spacious accommodations at Alight range range from 1 to 4 bedrooms, with a private bathroom for each bedroom.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes, all apartments at Alight have a furniture package that includes a full-size bed, stackable dresser, desk and chair in each bedroom, plus a sofa, chair, coffee table, end table and entertainment stand in each living room. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model home.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 15, 2024 to July 23, 2025, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

Is a co-signer or financial guaranty required?

Within 7 days after a Housing Agreement is signed, each resident is required to do one of two things: provide a qualifying guarantor (often a parent), or pre-pay the final 1 installment.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. Alight also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. Convenience fees apply for credit card and debit card payments.

Will my financial aid cover charges at Alight?

Your living costs at Alight can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at Alight. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is Alight open to non-students?

Nearly all the residents at Alight Birmingham are students at UAB and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Residents/families with children are welcome. There is no extra cost for minor children in the care of adult residents, other than regular charges for each bedroom space selected by the resident. A minor occupying a bedroom space rented by a parent, guardian or person with legal custody is not considered a breach of the Housing Agreement or a violation of the rules. Alight Birmingham is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. In order to match student roommates in shared apartments, we will request roommate consent for any non-student occupants.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

Alight has monitored fire sprinklers, plus controlled-access entrances and individually locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times. Management staff are also on-call 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

Alight is a no-pets community. The community is smoke-free in all indoor and adjacent areas. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of roommates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.

Can I park my vehicle at Alight?

Alight offers optional controlled-access garage parking for an additional charge. Visitor and resident parking is generally available on the streets surrounding the community at no charge.

What other transportation options will I have?

Alight is just four blocks from the UAB campus. The MAX Transit bus stops at Regions Field and Blazer Express stops at Chevron, each just one block away.

Can I see a model apartment?

Yes. Please request an appointment for a personal tour, or just stop by to see us and we’ll be happy to show you the community.
